
Today, on October 2, Sandro Topuria, Charge d’Affaires of Georgia to Ukraine, a senior adviser to Georgia, has been invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The reason was the detention of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Mykolenko said.
“The diplomat informed about the circumstances of the detention of Ukrainian citizen Mikhail Saakashvili in Georgia, the articles of the Georgian criminal code incriminating him,” Nikolenko said.
According to him, the Ukrainian side stressed the need to fully respect the legal rights of Mikheil Saakashvili and requested that a Ukrainian consul visit him to provide consular and legal assistance.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reiterated Ukraine’s principled position of non-interference in the internal affairs of Georgia.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry invited the head of the Georgian embassy in Ukraine to receive an official explanation for the incident.
It is worth mentioning that the former president was convicted in absentia in connection with the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and beating of MP Valeri Gelashvili, he is also involved in cases of the dispersal of an opposition rally on 7 November 2007, the pogrom of the Imedi TV station and the embezzlement of state budget funds.
