On Saturday, October 9, the qualifying match of the FIFA World Cup took place in Helsinki, in which the Ukrainian national football team won its first victory in the qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On paper, our opponent looked like one of the two outsiders in the group. However, in practice everything turned out differently – the Finnish national team is seriously claiming the second place.

The first match between the Ukrainians and the Finns ended in a 1:1 draw, which was perceived as an unfortunate coincidence. But the further results of our team showed that everything in this match was natural.

Goals by Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk in the first half brought Ukraine a 2: 1 victory over Finland.

West Ham United striker Yarmolenko put the visitors ahead less than five minutes after the start of the game, when he scored from 20 meters past the Finnish goalkeeper.

Finnish striker Teemu Pukki equalized for Finland in the 29th minute, but Ukraine regained the lead a few minutes later thanks to a goal by Yaremchuk.

Ukraine came in second in Group D with eight points, behind France with 12 points. Finland is 5 points ahead of Kazakhstan.

The next match of the national team of Ukraine will be held on October 12 in Lviv against the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
