Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president, acknowledged that Russia could not prevent Ukraine from joining NATO, but could minimize the consequences of such steps.

“We can’t stop it. And it’s impossible,” he said in response to a question.
Peskov noted that, nevertheless, the consequences of such steps for Russia can be minimized.
“I have no doubt that if Ukraine and NATO continue to converge, everything necessary will be done in Russia,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
We will remind, earlier Peskov declared that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is the worst scenario for Russia.
In response, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba noted that Ukraine was not interested in Russia’s opinion on joining NATO.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia should not be afraid of Ukraine’s potential accession to NATO, as the Alliance’s enlargement process has always only led to peace.
