Ukrainian boxer Yurii Zakharieiev has become the world champion. He defeated Russia’s Vadim Musaev in the final of the competition in the 71-kilogram weight category in Belgrade.
For the 19-year-old Zakharieiev, it was his debut world boxing championship. But he made it safely to the finals. And in the finals, he defeated Russian Vadim Musaev, 28.
Zakharieiev won by unanimous decision of the judges after three rounds. Only in the second round did one of the judges give the victory to the Russian, while others gave it to the Ukrainian.
For his victory, Zakharieiev received a gold medal and $100 thousand.
This is the first victory of Ukrainian boxers at the world championship since 2017. Back then, Oleksandr Khizhnyak returned with a gold medal.
