The Court of Appeal of Denmark upheld the conviction of Russian scientist Alexei Nikiforov, who was accused of espionage.

“The Court of Appeal unanimously upheld the ruling of the district court on guilt of Alexei Nikiforov and his three-year sentence,” the press release said.

The case was considered in a closed court session.

The message says the following: “When sentencing, the Court of Appeal drew particular attention to the fact that the accused had been involved in systematic and targeted espionage against research and products in the field of environmentally friendly technologies in Denmark for a number of years.”

The court also confirmed the decision to deport the accused after serving his prison term.

The defendant, who has been in custody since early July 2020, has been convicted of providing energy technology of Denmark to Russian intelligence.
