The Lithuanian military has set up a new military base near the border with Belarus to deploy an additional contingent to strengthen border protection. This was reported in the press service of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

It is indicated that the forward operating base (FOB) was built in an industrial area in the town of Druskininkai near the border with Belarus and Poland.

“Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupsys, commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, visited the forward operating base in Druskininkai, familiarized himself with the state border protection operation and observed joint training of soldiers with the Public Security Service and police officers,” the statement reads.

Let us remind you, the Lithuanian soldiers will stay at the border with Belarus for three months. They will help the officers of the State Border Guard Service to cope with the migration crisis.

Earlier, the Lithuanian military was given enhanced powers amid the attempts of refugees to illegally cross the border from Belarus.
