Ukraine considers the actions of the Russian Federation as a violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity. In accordance with the UN Charter, Ukraine has the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence, president Zelensky said late at night.
“We can clearly distinguish the provocations from the offensive of the aggressor’s troops”, he said. Russia’s actions mean it’s unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements and it destroys existing negotiating formats.
Zelensky noted that Russia is legalizing its troops, which have actually been in the occupied territories since 2014. “A country that has supported the war for 8 years cannot maintain peace, as it claims”, said Zelensky.
The President said that Ukraine requested consultations within the framework of the Budapest Memorandum. The President initiated a meeting of the UN Security Council, an emergency summit of the Normandy format and a special meeting of the OSCE. “We insist on the full work of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine,” Zelensky added
