Ireland supports Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and will make efforts to step up pressure on Russia to end the war.

“We have good news: Ireland fully supports Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the European Union. And it will do everything to increase the pressure on Russia as much as necessary to end this war,” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in his address.

President: Ireland supports Ukraine's fast-track accession to EU

The President noted that he had addressed the parliament and the people of Ireland on April 6. “This country was one of the first to come to our aid after February 24. And it is one of those who show principled leadership in the European house to put effective and decisive pressure on Russia,” Zelensky said.

As reported, Ukraine expects to receive this week the European Commission’s questionnaire on compliance with the Copenhagen criteria, which is a necessary step for Ukraine to become a candidate country.

According to the results of the poll conducted by the sociological group “Rating” on March 30-31, 91% of Ukrainians support joining the European Union.
