U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the United States hopes that allies and partners will not increase their purchases of Russian energy resources.
The U.S. urges all countries to avoid new arms purchases from Russia.
“When it comes to oil purchases, sanctions, etc., I would just point out that there are restrictions on energy purchases. Of course, we encourage countries not to buy additional energy from Russia,” Blinken said at a news conference following bilateral talks between the U.S. and Indian defense and foreign policy chiefs.
“Each country is in a different situation, each has different needs, different requirements, but we hope that allies and partners will not increase their purchases of Russian energy,” the secretary of state said.
He also added that the U.S. continues to urge “all countries to avoid new major deals to acquire Russian weapons systems, especially in light of what Russia is doing with respect to Ukraine.”
