Russian invasion forces have lost control over a number of settlements on the administrative border between Ukraine’s Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.
That’s according to a morning update by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“An operational report as of 6:00 on May 5 says that thanks to successful efforts of the Ukrainian defenders, the enemy lost control over several settlements on the border of the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions,” the update reads.
At the same time, the Russians are provoking tensions in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, regrouping troops in certain areas, taking measures to replenish reserves, and trying to improve the tactical position of their units.
The enemy continues artillery shelling along the line of contact in Donetsk and Tavria directions. They use operational-tactical and army aircraft to launch missile and bomb strikes in order to restrain the operations of Ukrainian troops.
Russian forces are trying to run offensive operations in the Lyman, Sieiverodonetsk, and Popasna areas, none of which are seeing success.
In the Avdiivka and Kurakhiv directions, the Russians are shelling Ukrainian defense positions.
In the Mariupol district, Russian occupiers are focusing their efforts on blocking and trying to destroy Ukrainian units holding defense at the Azovstal plant. With the support of aircraft, the enemy resumed the assault in order to take control of the facility.
In the Slobozhansk direction, the Russians are shelling the city of Kharkiv and running reconnaissance missions toward the Ukrainian positions. In the area north of the city of Izium, artillery and mortar shelling continues.
In the Volyn, Polissya and Siversky directions, the enemy took no significant action, as well as in the South Buh area. In the latter region, they launched missiles and dropped bombs at the positions of Ukrainian troops and infrastructure facilities.
According to available information, a number of servicemen with the 38th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 35th Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Eastern Military District, after being taken to the recovery area, due to significant personnel losses, refused to continue participating in hostilities in Ukraine. The mentioned servicemen are in the area near the Ukrainian-Russian border and are waiting to be transferred back to Russia.
Units of militants of the 2nd Army Corps of the 8th Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Southern Military District, based in the village of Svativ district, Luhansk region, staffed by locals from nearby settlements are experiencing low morale and significant issues with weapons and equipment supplies, remaining unprepared to perform combat missions.
On the previous day, Ukraine’s air defense units downed nine air targets: four UAVs and three cruise missiles. Two warplanes were also hit. According to a preliminary report, these were Su-30 fighter jets. The information is being clarified.
In Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Ukraine repulsed 11 enemy attacks and destroyed five main battle tanks, seven armored combat vehicles, and five military trucks over the past day.
As reported earlier, the enemy death toll as of May 4 stood at 24,500.
