A total of 240 children have been killed and over 436 injured in Ukraine since the Russian invasion started.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office on Telegram, a Vigilant correspondent reports.

“As of May 26, 2022, over 676 children in Ukraine were affected by the Russian armed aggression. According to the data from juvenile prosecutors, 240 children were killed and over 436 injured,” the report states.

These data are not final, as they are being investigated within the areas of hostilities, temporarily occupied and liberated areas.

Currently, most casualties were recorded in Donetsk Region (151), Kyiv Region (116), Kharkiv Region (105), Chernihiv Region (68), Luhansk Region (50), Kherson Region (49), Mykolaiv Region (45), Zaporizhzhia Region (28), Sumy Region (17), the city of Kyiv (16) and Zhytomyr Region (15).

When recording criminal offences, the Ukrainian side received information about two children who had been killed in Russia’s shelling of civilian cars in Mykolaiv Region. In addition, a 16-year-old girl was injured in Russia’s shelling of Mariupol.

On May 24, 2022, a 6-year-old girl was seriously injured in Russia’s shelling of Krasnohorivka, Donetsk Region, and later had her leg amputated.

On May 24, 2022, a 9-year-old girl was seriously injured in Russia’s shelling of Balakliia, Kharkiv Region.

A total of 1,883 educational institutions were damaged across Ukraine as a result of Russia’s daily air and artillery strikes, and 178 of them were destroyed completely.
