The Council of the European Union expanded sanctions against Russia for military invasion and aggression against Ukraine.

“The member states agreed with our enhanced, extended EU sanctions against the Kremlin. I welcome that. This sends a powerful signal to Moscow: we will press as much as necessary, “said Ursula von der Leyen.

As reported, last week the European Commission presented new proposals, the so-called “continuation and accession” legal package, designed to improve the effectiveness of sanctions. These proposals provide for the extension of sanctions for six months with their subsequent assessment and revision in January 2023.
