German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock called “self-delusion” the claim that Berlin received cheap natural gas from Russia.
According to “European Pravda,” this opinion was expressed by Berbock in an interview with Bild am Sonntag.
“We must put an end to the self-delusion that we have ever received cheap gas from Russia. We may not have paid a lot of money for it, but we have paid for it with our security and independence. And Ukrainians have already paid for it with thousands of their lives. came later, but all the more dramatically,” she said.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry also strongly opposed the opening of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline amid the current energy crisis, as Wolfgang Kubicki, deputy speaker of the Bundestag from the coalition Free Democratic Party, said earlier.
“Sometimes I wonder if some people have not realized that this is not a game with rules or sudden supply disruptions. Gas pipelines from Russia are no longer ordinary pipelines, but weapons in a hybrid war. If Putin doesn’t deliver through Nord Stream 1 Why should he deliver through Nord Stream 2? “Nord Stream-1 is not getting enough gas, not because the pipeline is broken, but because Putin doesn’t want it,” Berbok stressed.
As reported, Vice Speaker of the Bundestag Wolfgang Kubicki spoke in favor of opening the Nord Stream-2 pipeline to fill gas storage tanks for the winter, despite a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. He added: as soon as the storage tanks are full, the pipeline can be closed again.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that German politicians’ calls to launch the Nord Stream-2 pipeline reminded him of the situation with drug addiction. The German government rejected the idea of the Bundestag deputy speaker to launch Nord Stream-2.
