The US Treasury Department announced on September 8 the introduction of sanctions against the Iranian company Safiran Airport Services. According to the US authorities, this company “coordinated Russian military flights between Iran and Russia, including those related to the transportation of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles, personnel and related equipment from Iran to Russia.” Washington believes that the Russian Federation is going to use Iranian drones in the war against Ukraine. “Russia is choosing increasingly desperate ways to continue its unprovoked war against Ukraine, especially in the face of our unprecedented sanctions and export restrictions,” US Deputy Treasury Secretary Brian Nelson said.

In addition to Safiran, three Iranian companies that manufacture drones – Paravar Pars Company, Design and Manufacturing of Aircraft Engines and Baharestan Kish Company – as well as the managing director of the latter, Rehmatolla Heydari, also fell under the new US sanctions.
