The Riga City Council, in cooperation with the Latvian charitable foundation, has completed a tender for the purchase of 84 power generators and 100 hot air guns for the needs of Kyiv, Riga’s sister city.

It is reported by Ukrinform with reference to Facebook Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Alexander Mishchenko.

“Immediately after the start of the barbaric shelling of the Ukrainian energy system by the terrorist country – the Russian Federation in October this year, the Riga City Council decided to allocate 200,000 euros from its own budget for the purchase of energy equipment for the sister city of Riga – Kiev before the expiration of the winter period ”, – stated in the post Mishchenko.

After coordinating the urgent needs with the Kyiv City Council, the Riga leadership held a tender for the purchase of the necessary equipment to supply the capital with heat and electricity. As a result of the tender, the Latvian charitable foundation purchased 84 diesel generators with a capacity of 5 to 100 kW, as well as 100 diesel heat guns with a capacity of 20-25 kW. This equipment is delivered to Kiev in the near future – the first batch, which consists of 100 heat guns, will arrive in the capital of Ukraine next week. There they will be used in heating points, but also in the municipal utilities of the city.

The Ambassador of Ukraine thanked the Municipality of Riga, Mayor Mārtiņš Statis, the Latvian charity organization and its leader Ruta Dimanta for their help.

The Russian missile attack on November 23 led to a temporary blackout of all nuclear power plants, most of the thermal and hydroelectric power plants. Power transmission installations were also affected.
