UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stated that the international community should accelerate its support for Ukraine because a “prolonged stalemate” in the war would only benefit Russia.

According to The Guardian, a British prime minister’s spokesperson said this in a statement.

“He [the Prime Minister] said since becoming prime minister he had reviewed the UK’s approach and concluded that a prolonged stalemate in the conflict would only benefit Russia. Which was why he had decided there was an opportunity to accelerate UK support working closely with our allies to give Ukraine the best chance of success and make the most of the window of opportunity where Russian forces were on the back foot,” the spokesperson said.

It is noted that Sunak said this at a Cabinet meeting.

“He said the new strategy would also see greater diplomatic efforts and planning work with the Ukrainian on how to rebuild once the conflict had ended,” the report says.

As a reminder, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that his country, together with allies and partners, would ensure Ukrainians could defend themselves and win the war.
