Despite recent tensions between Warsaw and Moscow, Russian Ambassador Sergei Andreyev plans to appear on May 9 at the Mausoleum of Soviet Soldiers Cemetery in Warsaw. The embassy claims that it has contacted the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a request regarding the ceremony. A meeting for 300 people reported to the town hall is also to be held in this place.

We asked about Ambassador Andreyev’s plans directly at the Russian embassy. Its employees confirmed that the diplomat – as every year – will lay flowers at the monument.

“On May 9, the Russian ambassador to Poland, Sergei Andreyev, together with the employees of the Russian embassy, plans to lay wreaths at the Mausoleum of Soviet Soldiers Cemetery in Warsaw. On the same day, a diplomatic reception will be held on the occasion of Victory Day,” the Russian embassy informs Wirtualna Polska.

And – as he claims – “at the end of April, the Russian embassy sent a note to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in which it informed about the celebrations planned for May 9 and  asked the Polish authorities to organize the protection of public order .” The embassy was not supposed to receive a reply from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
